Here's some photos I took of Mages, a duo that I'm helping set up a press kit.
The lighting was particularly horrible, and I hate using flash. I thought the result was kind of cool though, since the red and black matched with JP's flannel shirt.
The band has kind of an earthy aesthetic they'd like to follow, so the warm distorted look of these pictures seem to help to convey that.
Here's a feature I wrote about a photography exhibition at the Icebox on Bob Dylan's earlier years. The article appeared in Rift, while it was still in print the first time around (in the Fall of 2006).
Here's a review I wrote on the Squareshooters. The who? Yeah, that's right. I wrote a negative review, and some douchebag from the band had the nerve to Facebook me some nasty email.
Loser. Hope they're no longer playing music. Keep yer day jobs!
Here's a review I wrote for 24 Reasons Why. I worked with the drummer for awhile, before he quit both gigs. The band has this posted on their Myspace, kind of cool.
Here's a feature I wrote on local band The Future in early 2007. It was supposed to be in the print version, but this was right around the time Rift went out of print. This was one of few online articles that went up before Rift disappeared for a year.
Here's a feature I wrote about Desdamona this past summer. I originally wanted this to come out a year earlier, but Rift went out of print (and offline) for a year. In hindsight, I could have pitched it elsewhere, but I wanted it in print, and nothing was around this time last year. Now, we have Rift and Mill City Scene.
I created this website for the John H. Stevens House between June and September of 2006. I think I had been inquiring about working on a newsletter, and was informed the position was filled, but that this was available.
The site is looking dated and simple, but is much more sophisticated than what the original website looked like (think Internet circa 1996):
After the student newspaper at my community college fell into poor leadership, I decided (with permission from my instructor) to earn the remainder of the course's credit by contributing to Blogcritics.org, an entertainment blog.
Each blogger who contributes to the site must possess a blog, which would become linked to Blogcritics every time that blogger contributed. Here is the link to my personal blog:
Twin Cities Decider is an event website that complements The Onion's AV Club's print version. Many Decider articles have been published in the print version of the AV Club.
