King Otto has done again. I'm glad I started paying closer attention to his links on Facebook, he posts mixtapes all the freakin' time. Here's one he did last week honoring the late great Guru.
They've got talent, and one dude kinda raps like Del a bit. BUT...please don't just rhyme over popular songs, and call it a mixtape. I don't know, I guess when the bigger rappers flip beloved tracks it seems alright. Here, it just seems like copyright infringement.
Here's a (belated) review (if you can call it that) of the Afrika Bambaataa show. I wrote it in a rush last week. I hate reporting on some shows, because they turn out completely different than I intended, and it really sucks. That's how I felt this night. Reminded me of being at Coolio.
Gotta love Dilla, he produced so many beloved hip hop tracks. Here's King Otto's homage, that he spun live back in 2006 at his regular gig at King and I Thai. Wonder why it's resurfacing again...an anniversary? I'll have to do some research. Download: King Otto - Dilla Mix
Paper Tiger pays homage to one of rap's most badass, in lieu of Ice Cube headlining Paid Dues Festival, where Doomtree performed to a sold-out crowd in San Bernardino, CA April 3. Download: Paper Tiger - 20 MIN MIX #5
