King Otto has done again. I'm glad I started paying closer attention to his links on Facebook, he posts mixtapes all the freakin' time. Here's one he did last week honoring the late great Guru.
They've got talent, and one dude kinda raps like Del a bit. BUT...please don't just rhyme over popular songs, and call it a mixtape. I don't know, I guess when the bigger rappers flip beloved tracks it seems alright. Here, it just seems like copyright infringement.
Here's a (belated) review (if you can call it that) of the Afrika Bambaataa show. I wrote it in a rush last week. I hate reporting on some shows, because they turn out completely different than I intended, and it really sucks. That's how I felt this night. Reminded me of being at Coolio.
Gotta love Dilla, he produced so many beloved hip hop tracks. Here's King Otto's homage, that he spun live back in 2006 at his regular gig at King and I Thai. Wonder why it's resurfacing again...an anniversary? I'll have to do some research. Download: King Otto - Dilla Mix
Paper Tiger pays homage to one of rap's most badass, in lieu of Ice Cube headlining Paid Dues Festival, where Doomtree performed to a sold-out crowd in San Bernardino, CA April 3. Download: Paper Tiger - 20 MIN MIX #5
MPLS artists, check it--Hub's looking for someone to paint a mural for their Minnehaha location:
"The Hub Bike Co-op is seeking proposals from local artists to paint a mural on the east-and south-facing walls of our store at 3020 Minnehaha Ave. South. To be considered a mural by city licensing entities, it cannot have content directly associated with the business on which it is painted, in our case bicycles. We are raising funds to pay for materials and an artist's stipend. Here's the catch: We don't own our building, and the landlord doesn't want anything permanent to be painted on it. But everything else is okay. Painting on Tyvek, sheetmetal screwed into the concrete, whatever you can come up with. Let us know what your experience is, how long it might take you, when you could start and an approximate cost, and send some samples of your work, if you have them. Thanks, The Hub"
Three songs into "Plastic Beach," and already the album has proven its brilliance.
I remember buying the first Gorillaz album way back in the day, the day it came out, insisting to my friends this band was gonna be the hugest thing ever. I'm so glad I was right.
Might as well face it. Happy Valentine's Day! And for the bitter ones....Happy Single Awareness Day! It's really just a greeting card holiday, so put up or shut up.
Going to see this tonight, hope it's good. Maybe if I can get over the fact that Taylor Swift's in it, and she's all over Team Jake (or, as I like to call him, Jailbait):
I have been in love with this band since Howl Howl Gaff Gaff (2005). I don't get why they aren't bigger than the Super Bowl by now. Adam Olenius is sort of unreal, compared to the super-cool looking, tight-jean wearing, detached rock boys infecting the scene. I love him:
Found Footage posted today a VHS called Our Friend, Martin: A Magical Movie Adventure, a movie about MLK that had been found at a Wisconsin used bookstore for twenty-five cents. Check it out:
Final day of celebrating Sesame Street Live at Target Center with videos. Here's everyone's favorite frog singing "It's not easy being green." It will pull your heartstrings:
To celebrate Sesame Street Live coming to my work, Target Center, I am posting Sesame Street this week. Oscar the Grouch was always my favorite, so let's start with BIlly Joel and Marlee Matlin serenading the trash-loving muppet.
Here are some cool organizations worth checking out. I have them here to help me out with story ideas, but this would be a great resource for those seeking internships, volunteer opportunities, or organizations in which to become a member or donor. Here they are:
Critical Mass is a monthly bike ride that honors a cyclist's right to the road. Here's a video of stupid cops messing with cyclists, which has been known to happen during rides.
Substance is an organization merging activism with the arts to promote social change. Rage Against The Machine performed at a Substance event during the RNC.
